A PACKED programme of summer activities has been organised by staff at a Barnard Castle community centre.
Everything from orienteering to art, music and drama is on offer at the TCR Hub, at Shaw Bank.
For those who like to explore the great outdoors, there are nature trail, pond dipping and orienteering sessions from 10am to 1pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from July 27 to August 31.
Orienteering takes place in the centre’s grounds and costs £5 per family.
There is a regular timetable of sessions including Wildlife Wonders from 10am to noon most Thursdays from July 22 to August 26 when family activities co-ordinator Sarah Gent and friends will help visitors learn about birds, identify trees, create natural art and play nature-inspired games.
Ms Gent said the sessions were suitable for children aged four and older, but all are welcome. It costs £3 per person but those under 4 years come for free.
Family Festival Fridays have been lined up on Fridays from July 23 to August 27.
Ms Gent said that with activities set up in the grounds, along with arts and crafts, music playing on the sound system and interesting things to do, Festival Friday sessions are designed to offer a fun-filled afternoon.
“Bring a picnic blanket and some food and relax while the kids enjoy painting, playing with the parachute and giant games, making bubbles, drama and dance,” she said.
Activities are again recommended for children aged four and older, but all are welcome.
Festival Fridays cost £6 per person (free for those under four) and a group ticket for four is £20.
Children aged eight-plus can be booked into TCR Summer Club, which runs from 8am to 5pm on weekdays from August 2 to 13.
Ms Gent said: “Following the success of 2020 Summer Club, Hannah and Laura are getting ready to welcome children to the Hub once more for a fun-filled, action packed two weeks of supervised activities, which will include arts and crafts, walks, outdoor activities, music, dance, fitness sessions, cooking and team games.
“The timetable will be finalised nearer the time and activities are subject to change.”
All activities are supervised by experienced, qualified and friendly leaders. Places are £20 per child per day, £15 if booking more than one child and with a 20 per cent discount if booking for a whole week. Packed lunches are included.
The TCR Outdoor Activities Club runs from August 22 to 26, 10am to 3pm.
Children and young people will experience a range of different activities from high ropes to canoeing, under the watchful eyes of professional instructors.
This costs £20 per child per day, £15 if booking more than one child and a packed lunch included.
All activities must be booked in advance and subsidised places are available, thanks to the support of the Community Lottery Fund. To find out more and book, visit www.tcrhub.co.uk.
