Choirs to lead popular Christmas carol concert

TUNING UP: The carol concert has been organised by Jane Ford for the past 16 years

A TRIO of choirs will lead the singing at a popular seasonal concert this weekend.
Carols by Candlelight takes place at The Witham, Barnard Castle, on Sunday, December 12, with organiser Jane Ford promising all the festive favourites.
The concert will feature Concordia, four female voices who are reconvening especially for the show, the Rondeau Choir – a new mixed voice ensemble comprising former members of Carillon and one or two new singers – and community choir No Added Sugar.
Ms Ford, who has organised the concert for the past 16 years, said she was looking forward to the event.
“Concordia used to be the girls choir. Now it is four voices with former members, who are much older and who only get together once a year to do this concert,” she said.
“Carillon is no more, but some of the members and one or two new people got together to form Rondeau. There are eight voices in that choir.
“And then there is No Added Sugar, which is now based at the village hall, in Gainford, rehearsing weekly on a Tuesday evening.”
Ms Ford said the choirs would come together to perform the opening and closing carol.
Each will then sing a selection of six and there will be five carols in which the audience is invited to join in.
“For the first time this year and in collaboration with The Witham, the words will be projected onto a screen behind the choir.”
The concert begins at 5pm and tickets, priced £8, are available from The Witham box office on 01833 631107 or online at www.the witham.org.uk.
