A SUMMER show for Teesdale’s iconic pony breed will go ahead in a virtual format.
The Dales Pony Society had to cancel its summer show last year after an equine influenza outbreak.
The coronavirus pandemic has led to the society cancelling three of this year’s events already but members have devised a “simple” virtual show which they hope will be well supported by members.
Jill Graham, general secretary, said: “We’ve kept the rules quite simple and although a lot of other shows use a lot of technology
many of our members are of the older generation so we thought if they were able to send in video clips from their smartphones that would be simple enough to do.”
The virtual show has nine classes – six in hand and three ridden.
All entries must be submitted by email as video clips, filmed in 2020. No video editing is allowed
Ms Graham added: “It is a small subset of classes and we wanted it to be a bit of fun – something for people to do while they are at home. We didn’t want it to be about who is best skilled at technology.
“We have no idea as to how many people will take part, but hopefully we’ll have quite a lot and we’ve had good
feedback so far from members.” A schedule for the summer show is available to download at dalespony.org with instructions on how to enter.
The show is for society members only and entries need to be submitted before June 20.
Rosettes will be posted to all winners, who will be announced on July 12 on the website, which will also feature video clips of contestants.
