Andre’s adventure concludes with a letter from Her Majesty

ROYAL CORRESPONDENCE: Little Andre Nagel and deputy headteacher Nic Linsley show off the letter from Queen Elizabeth II while classmates and headteacher Rob Goffee cheer them on

GREEN Lane Primary School pupils were thrilled to receive a letter from the queen after they told her about a topic inspired by a South African classmate’s stop off at Buckingham Palace.
The school’s topic came about when deputy headteacher Nic Linsley asked pupil Andre Nagel to take the school mascot Simba with him on his Christmas holiday to South Africa last year.
The plan was for the class to discuss photographs of Andre and Simba in different parts of Africa after they returned.
Among the photographs was one of the youngster and Simba standing outside Buckingham Palace.
Ms Linsley said: “I asked him who lives at Buckingham Palace.
“He said the corgis.
“We decided to do a little topic about the palace and who lives there.”
Afterwards the children wrote a letter to the queen including the photograph of Andre and Simba, as well as different artwork done by the class.
The topic went further to learn about the postal system and after everyone had gone to the post box to send the letter, they tracked the route it would take to the palace.
The class was surprised when the queen replied with a formal letter in which she specifically mentioned little Andre and thanking the school for writing to her and sending the pictures.
In Afrikaans Andre said: “Ek is baie trots dat die koningin vir ons a brief gestuur het. (I am very proud that the queen sent a us letter)” .
