KERRIDGE CUP
BARNARD Castle secured their spot in the Kerridge Cup final after a convincing home win over Middlesbrough on Sunday.
Middlesbrough might have felt confident after taking the wickets of opener Giles Creedon and overseas pro Hashan Dumindu for ten and 11 respectively after winning the toss and sending Barney in to bat at Vere Road.
However a strong stand by the middle order put Barney on course for a competitive total with James Quinn hitting 66, Richard Borrowdale 64 and Pat Roberts 56.
After their 40 overs Barney were 287 for eight.
Wickets tumbled quickly in the Middlesbrough innings, with few batsmen troubling the scoreboard.
Only two batsmen made double figures, with Middlesbrough returned to the clubhouse with a paltry 84 not out, handing Barney a 203 run victory.
Richard Watson was pick of the blowers taking three for 12, with Creedon making up for his batting by taking two for 23.
Tom Merryweather and Robert Dixon took one apiece.

Darlington 104/5
BARNEY were less successful in the Premier division match on Saturday having to settle for a draw against Darlington.
Darlington won the toss on home soil and elected to field and were jubilant after taking the early wicket of James Wainman for a duck. Pro Hasham Dumindu alo went cheaply for eight, followed by captain James Quinn for six.
However, Mike Dixon coming in at two provided a stabilising influence to the line up by making 98 in an innings that included 13 boundaries.
Richard Borrowdale also contributed with 58.
Pat Creedon added 13n/o and Giles Creedon 28n/o before Barney declared in the 47th over with 227 for five, setting Darlington a target of 209 off 42.
They were not up to the task and completed the overs with just 104 for five on the scoreboard.

MALTBY’S tail-enders stuck out it out to force a draw agains Barney’s 2nd XI at Vere Road.
Barney were sent into to bat after losing the toss and produced a solid innings almost throughout the batting order.
Openers Cameron McKnight and James Alderson gave a solid foundation reaching 22 and 27 respectively before both were caught by Connor Millichap off the bowling of Ben Fox.
Fox also claim the scalp of Adam Bainbridge who notched up 24 after coming in at three.
Tom Merryweather was unlucky not to make a century after being caught lbw by Steven Hill on 94.
Others to contribute were Richard Stanwix 24, Justin Hesp 36 and Joe Toulson 19.
Barney declared on 270 for eight in the 46th over.
Maltby got off to a tough start losing opener Chris Francis for one, but contributions from John Wilkin 20, John Talbot 46, Sam Irvine 35 and Steven Hill 23, kept them in the hunt.
However, a lower middle order collapse had Barney sensing victory, with four wickets falling for just 15 runs.
Barney were not able to unseat tail-enders Ben Fox and Archie Stevenson who saw out the 54 overs.
Along with 19 extras, Maltby secured the draw after reaching 164/9.
