TRIBUTES have been paid to Durham’s Police, Crime and Victims’ Commissioner.
Ron Hogg died last week having been diagnosed with motor neurone disease earlier this year.
Chief Constable Jo Farrell said: “Durham Constabulary and the people of County Durham and Darlington have lost a great colleague and friend.
“Ron was a radical thinker, an inspiring leader and a lifelong public servant who
wasn’t afraid to tackle head-on some of the most difficult issues facing society.”
Mr Hogg was well known in Barnard Castle for his part in the Bede Kirk saga. After protests from residents who wanted to save the green area from development, Mr Hogg agreed to gift the area to the community.
Mr Hogg was born in 1951 in Stirlingshire. In 2003 he became deputy chief constable of Cleveland Police, a position he held until retiring in 2008 after 30 years in policing. As police and crime commissioner, he campaigned for the reform of drugs policy at national level.
