PREPARATIONS are underway in Middleton-in-Teesdale for a free Christmas Day lunch for those in need.
The fourth festive community meal will be served at The Pathway on December 25 thanks to a team of kind-hearted volunteers.
Guests will be able to enjoy a traditional roast turkey dinner with all the trimmings followed by a choice of three desserts.
“There will also be a vegetarian option.
Volunteer Judith Tarn said: “Already we have 16 bookings and we are welcoming more. We all have lots of things and we don’t need anymore for Christmas. What people lack is time and time being spent with them.
“This is for anyone who would otherwise be alone or for one reason or another fancy coming here. Everyone is welcome. If needs must, no one would be turned away. There would always be an extra plate.”
Donations have been received from a number of organisations to help fund the event. Ms Tarn thanked all who had shown their support.
She said: “It has had a good turnout in previous years. The atmosphere is really good. It is a joy to be part of it.”
Transport can be organised for those who are unable to get to The Pathway on the day.
Doors will open at 11am. Lunch will be served around 12.30pm.
Anyone who would like to attend the event or volunteer to help can contact Ms Tarn on 01833 640694 or email
