Fashion show for a cause close to Sharon’s heart

DEMENTIA EVENT: Lions president Sharon Walker and outfitter Fiona Brookes examine some of the items that will form part of a charity fashion show later this month

BARNARD Castle Lions Club has teamed up with a town tailor to present a fashion show to raise cash for dementia charities.

New Lions president Sharon Walker is working with old school friend Fiona Brookes, of Brookes Outfitters and Tailors, to put on the show at St Mary’s Parish Hall this month.

Along with regular Lions fundraising, the club president has chosen dementia causes as her charity for the year and will be hosting a series of events to raise cash for the cause.

Mrs Walker said: “I lost my dad to dementia. He was poorly for a lot of years and you realise how much support a family needs.”

Ms Walker has also completed a dementia friends course, giving her greater insight into the condition and the need for more support.

The fashion show, on Monday, October 21, at 7pm, will include a raffle and refreshments.

Mrs Walker said: “We will have stalls, so it will be a little shopping experience as well.”

Mon Petit Spa will be putting on demonstrations and stalls will include sweets, glass engravers, a milliner and crafts, a fiddle mat group and a wooden toy maker.

Lions will also be promoting their Message in a Bottle scheme – a unique idea which ensures a person’s medical information is safely available in an emergency.

Mrs Brookes said the show will include a range of men’s and women’s fashions with brands such as Brandtex, Marble Fashions, Junge, Red Cuckoo, Magee, Double Two and Dents.

Failsworth Hats will also be exhibited. Tickets for the show cost £5 and are available from Brookes Outfitters and Tailors, in Market Place.
