Duo kick-start Sunday classics

CURTAIN RAISER: Pellingmans' Saraband

A CELEBRATION of Renaissance and early baroque music will kick-start a season of Sunday afternoon concerts at The Witham.

Pellingmans’ Saraband will perform on Sunday, September 29, at 2.30pm playing music from the time of Shakespeare to Charles II.

Pellingmans’ Saraband comprise Jacob Heringman and Susanna Pell, who provided a glimpse of their skills at the last Sunday Night at the Witham fundraiser in April. The second Sunday classics performance takes place on October 20 and will feature the Aquarius String Quartet, who also performed at The Witham in April.

Their programme will include Haydn’s The Lark and Dvorak’s The American.

The third Sunday Classics concert will be a piano recital given by Stephen Raine on December 8.

His programme is likely to include pieces by Mozart and Bach.

Sarah Gent, The Witham’s marketing officer, said the Sunday afternoon concerts had been organised in response to public demand.

Tickets for each performance are £12 and £10 for U16s, however, discounts are available for music fans wishing to attend all three. For details, contact The Witham box office on 01833 631107 or go to www.thewitham.org.uk.
