A BENCH dedicated to the memory of a Barnard Castle man who died last year has been unveiled.
Andrew Tobbell was just 48 when he took his own life in August 2018. Mr Tobbell, who was a popular member of the charity fundraising group, The Clique, was known across the dale.
Money to purchase the bench was raised by family friend Catherine Bainbridge, of Eggleston, who completed the Great North Run in September last year.
Ms Bainbridge, with help from The Clique, raised enough in sponsorship to buy the teak bench, which was sourced by Clique member John Walker. The bench also has a brass plaque in dedicated to Mr Tobbell.
For the unveiling, it was placed at the northern end of the town’s cricket pitch and there will be a special patio area built close by.
John Bousfield, Ms Bainbridge’s father and Clique member, said: “Andrew meant a lot to Catherine. She’d known him most of her life and she wanted to do something in his memory.”
