Duo plan a twist for their traditional pub

Duo plan a twist for their traditional pub

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Clare Moss-Klennell and Clare Dixon review the menu at The Three Tuns in Eggleston

TRADITION with a twist is what is promised on the menu after a dale pub reopened its doors recently.

The Three Tuns, at Eggleston, had been closed following the departure of the previous tenants.

Now business partners Clare Dixon and Clare Moss-Klennell have decided to take the business in-house and run it alongside their other business ventures in the dale, Clarendon’s, in Barnard Castle, Eggleston Hall Tearooms and CCS Catering.

Mrs Dixon said: “To have a closed pub in the village was not an option.”

She added: “This is our local too – we want to try and make sure it is open when it needs to be.”

The pair said the pub will be run with the same philosophy as their other enterprises.

Mrs Moss-Klennell said: “We will be trying to use local suppliers where possible and the menu will be seasonally based. Wherever possible we intend to reduce food-miles.”

The focus is very much on helping the local community and developing community links even down to employing locals where possible.

Currently the duo are recruiting a chef who will work in collaboration with the two entrepreneurs, but will have freedom to put their own stamp on the menu. Real ale is also going to feature strongly on the bill of fare.

Mrs Dixon said: “We are passionate about real ales and we intend to provide variety and choice with two to three ales available at any one time.

“We are also going to ask our customers for their suggestions.”

Looking to the future, Mrs Dixon and Mrs Moss-Klennell hope to roll out a series of theme nights and are calling on anyone who is interested in joining the Thursday pool team.

Mrs Moss-Klennell said: “Since re-opening we really appreciate the support of the local community and we would like to thank all the well wishers for their kind words.”

The Three Tuns is currently open Thursday to Saturday from 6pm until close and Sunday from 11.30am until close.
