Action packed weekend for visiting Mencap group

HOOKED ON THE HUB: Frank Harrison

MEMBERS of a project supporting people with mild learning difficulties spent an exciting weekend at The Hub, in Barnard Castle, trying out some of the activities on offer.

The team at The Hub arranged for members of Mencap More2do, to try out a range of activities including a session in the music studio with teacher Dave Cowans.

After trying out various musical instruments and singing the group enjoyed an hour-long dance session.

During the afternoon the group were entertained when keen local angler Frank Harrison taught them how to fish on The Hub’s lake.

The day was rounded off with an evening of pottery making with artisan Lynsey Starborn.

The participants, aged between 20 and 60, enjoyed the accommodation at the charity-run venue during their two night stay.

Shelley Lane, from Mencap More2do, said: “The Hub is ideal for a weekend away, everything we need is on site and once we are here we don’t need to travel anywhere.

“It’s a place where our members can relax and be themselves.”

Vicky Taylor, from The Hub, added: “Mencap asked us to arranged some fun activities that promote independence and challenge individuals to try something new.

“We are fortunate to have a wide range of expert tutors here who were able to provide an action packed day of adventures. It’s been an absolute pleasure hosting this wonderful group of people and we look forward to seeing them again.”
