Booming Barnard Castle baby group could expand

A BARNARD Castle baby group could be about to expand.

A group of about 15 people meet at The Hub every Wednesday, dropping between noon and 3pm. It has been run on an informal basis but Hub manager Rachel Tweddle will expand it by providing a bigger room if enough people are interested in bringing toddlers as well as babies.

She said: “At the moment, it’s mostly babies and it gives mums, carers or grandparents the chance to meet people and socialise. I think there are only two toddler groups in Barnard Castle at the moment and if there is sufficient interest, we can look to expand it by attracting toddlers too.”

Mum Amy Smith has been bringing along her seven-month-old, Ralph. She said: “We went to the breastfeeding clinic next door and then heard about this. It gives us peer support.”

Carly Davies, who takes four-and-a-half-month-old Fox, joked: “There are only so many nursery rhymes you can watch at home.”

Aimee Craggs, who was with Charlie, ten months, said she enjoyed it because it
