CHILDREN from a dale school camped out overnight to do some stargazing as part of their latest learning theme.

Head of science at Bowes Hutchinson’s Primary School Chris Scaife organised the event, which saw the children returning to school after tea for an evening full of adventure.

Mr Scaife said: “The children came back at 6pm and we set up our camp at school and waited for it to get a bit dark.

“Rosie spotted the first star and we saw Orion’s Belt.”

After about an hour of stargazing the children went back into the school where they completed a number of projects. They also got to watch the movie ET before going to bed.

Mr Scaife added: “They had a wonderful night and they were all fantastically well behaved.”

The following morning the pupils enjoyed breakfast and later in the day they held an assembly to show off the work they had done.

This included fact sheets about space including planets, stars, constellation booklets and some artwork.
