Runners tackle 12-hour Tan Hill relay

LAST Saturday, members ran a 72-mile relay via the famous Tan Hill Inn, with three or four runners on each leg.

The relay starting and finished in Evenwood and took 12 hours to run.

On the first leg at 7.30am were Andrew Laybourn, Jamie Cummins, Phil Henry and Nicola Finch going from Evenwood through Cockfield and Burnthouse to the hand over at the Copley chimney for the six miles to Eggleston with Leanne Diaz, Gail Richards, Katie Corner and Louise Rhodes running.

Tony Hindmarch, Alan Walker and Keith Hatton headed uphill from Eggleston through Mickleton past Grassholme and Selset Reservoirs.

As the runners heading for Brough, Paul Tucker, Steven Graydon and Stephen Sams ran to the Cumbria border sign where they passed over to Jane Quinn, Marie Chamberlain, Susan Vart and Joanne Sowerby for the run down into Brough.

With a tough section still ahead it was the faster lads who tackled 9.5 miles uphill onto the moors from Brough to Tan Hill. With the majority of the runners enjoying a refreshment at Tan Hill, Maddy Fisher and Mark Baglin ran down from Tan Hill then up the steep hill to the top of the Stang.

Joanne Foster, Adam Corner and Bradley Wilson took the route down through the Stang forest to Barnard Castle.

The juniors took over for the two miles along Green Lane to Westwick. With the end in sight the next three runners – Samantha Tucker, Simone Price and Ian Sowerby – ran over Whorlton Bridge and through Ovington before handing over at Winston to the final group Mark and David Baglin with David Wilson to run to The Sun Inn.

Everyone then ran the last mile-and-a-half together.

ON Sunday, June 10, Morag Burton represented TAC in the trail 10k at Keswick Mountain Festival. The 10k race is part of a weekend of races which includes a 25k & a 50k.

The 10k started with a boat ride across the lake before hilly and challenging course.

On June 23, six runners took part in the weekly 5k park run at South Park, Darlington.

Shona Haston was first female back and 22nd overall with a new PB of 20.24mins.

Barbara Crawley and Judith Rodwell both recorded PB’s – 25.49 and 26.52.

Andrew Crawley finished in 24.58, Fiona Bainbridge 39.06 and Morag Burton – running with her niece – in 39.02.
