A dog has been rescued near Cotherstone after becoming stranded on the bank of the River Tees.
Teesdale & Weardale Search & Mountain Rescue Team were called by police just before 7am this morning to help reunite Riley, a golden labrador, with its owner.
The alarm was raised by a nearby resident after the dog had apparently got over excited by some sheep and ended up stuck on a ledge at the bottom of a very steep slope.
Once the dog was located, TWSMRT volunteers set up a simple rope system and two team members were lowered to the site.
After a few reassuring strokes, Riley was secured and lowered to the bottom where one of the team’s dog handlers, Des Toward, was waiting.
TWSMRT member, Scott Bisset, said: “The dog was none the worse for its adventure and soon re-united with its owner who was extremely grateful and very happy.”
