A 53-year-old man has been arrested after a major police operation in Middleton-in-Teesdale.
Police say a warrant was executed at a property just outside the village on the B6282.
The suspect is currently in police custody on suspicion of possession of a firearm and growing cannabis.
It follows a major operation yesterday (March 7) when the B6282 road was closed by police at about 4pm.
Residents reported seeing armed police and a police helicopter was also seen in the area. There was a heavy police presence and a police dog van parked outside two houses on the approach to Middleton yesterday when the road was reopened.
A Durham Police spokesperson said: “We have attended a property on the B6282, just outside”¨ Middleton-in-Teesdale, and executed a warrant at that address.
“A 53-year-old man is currently in custody following the warrant. He has attended as a voluntary attender in relation to allegations of possession of a firearm and cultivation of cannabis.”
