A SERIES of music events hit the right note at the weekend – and there’s much more to come.
On saturday, the Summer festival of free outdoor performances in the cafe garden at The Witham, in Barnard Castle, began with a snippet of what audiences can expect next week The Castle Players’ production of The Comedy of Errors.
Next up was Hop, Skiffle and Jump, who had visitors’ feet tapping to the sounds of 1950s stars such as Lonnie Donegan, while on Sunday, the duo Liffy entertained with everything from T’Pau to Elton John.
On saturday, evening, the St Mary’s Community Orchestra played to a sell-out audience at The Witham as part of Barney parish church’s ongoing music festival.
The show also featured the young musicians and choir from Green Lane Primary School in a performance that featured everything from Ghostbusters to Austin Powers.
This weekend, the free entertainment continues at The Witham, while on Saturday, Barnard Castle Cricket Club hosts its annual Bands Day.
The event will feature six live bands and doors open at noon. Tickets are £8 in advance from the bar, and £10 on the day. Tickets for over 65s are £5. It’s £4 for those aged 11 to 16 and U11s are admitted free.
