BARNINGHAM’S early season woes with the bat continued at Cockerton on Saturday.
Having failed to post 50 against Haughton seven days earlier, the dale side struggled at Cockerton, where the hosts posted a modest 124-9 from their 40 overs.
Skipper Jake Black led the way with 4-18 and Carl Irving chipped in with 3-30 as William Hopkins top scored for Cockerton with 38.
In reply, Nick Wright hit 52 for Barningham, but only one other batsmen made it to double figures as the side was dismissed for 85.
Antony Rawlings was the destroyer, taking 6-43, while Matthew Gill claimed 3-36.
Lack of available players forced Lands to concede their game against Haughton.
The game of the day saw Simon Warne smash an unbeaten 163 for Eryholme – and end up on the losing side.
Warne’s effort helped Eryholme to 272-6 from their 40 overs against East Cowton, who reached the target with fully five overs to spare.
Opener Brian Tucker was the architect of the run chase, ending unbeaten on 115 as half a dozen other batsmen chipped in with useful runs.
Peter Forster blasted Raby Castle to an eight wicket win against Middleton St George at Staindrop.
An opening stand of 99 between Joe Lincoln (42) and Chris Peacock (55) laid the foundation for Middleton’s 214, with skipper Dale Johnson adding 32 late on.
In reply, the Dent brothers Matt (40) and Joe (52) set the scene and then Forster smashed six boundaries and five sixes in his unbeaten 75 to see Raby home with five overs to spare.
In the A division’s other game, Aldbrough St John’s 178 proved just enough to claim the points against Cliffe, who were bowled out for 154.
In the B division, Cliffe II could only muster eight players and provided little resistance against Middleton-in- Teesdale.
Cliffe were bowled out for 61, John Lucas taking 4-12.
Steve Addison hit a quick-fire 37 before perishing as Middleton knocked off the runs in just ten overs.
Raby Castle II were bowled out for 107, a total which Witton-le-Wear passed for the loss of just five wickets.
Other B division scores: Haughton II 195-9, Aldbrough St John II 46; Catterick Village 219-7, Richmondshire V 98; Barton 54, Middleton Tyas 58-1; Oxbridge 121, Spennymoor 122-4.
In the C division, King James’ Richard Bown took 6-26 to help dismiss Etherley for 80.
King James then reached the target for five down, thanks largely to the 28 extras given away by the Etherley bowlers, which included 15 wides.
