Gillian steps out for cause close to her heart

STEPPING OUT: Gillian Clark

A DALE fundraiser is striding out to boost funds for a cause close to her heart.
Gillian Clark has signed up to complete Epilepsy Action’s 50-mile February walking challenge. Those taking part are challenged to complete the marathon in any way they can and Ms Clark, 53, from Startforth Park is doing a mixture of steps and walking. She decided to give it a go as her partner, Stephen Carrick, was diagnosed with epilepsy more than 30 years ago.
“He is on medication and in all that time he has only really had two bad fits,” she said.
“The challenge has been going really well – and I do feel a bit fitter.
“It’s done me a bit of good as well as I was becoming a couch potato.”
It is the first time Ms Clark, who works at the Galgate News newsagents, has signed up for a charity challenge and she has so far raised almost £230 via an online page and donations.
“I found out about it through social media and decided it was a good thing to do,” she said.
“I needed to a bit of exercise and I thought I would raise some money at the same time. All the money raised will go towards research into epilepsy.”
Anyone wishing to support Ms Clark’s efforts can get in touch via her Facebook fundraising page at https:
