A FUNDRAISING classic car show has raised thousands of pounds for two good causes.
The event was the first to be held in the grounds of Barnard Castle School and attracted more than 70 vintage vehicles of all shapes and sizes, ranging from a Ferguson 50 tractor to a 1967 Mustang Fastback.
Enthusiasts travelled from near and far to support the show, which was held to raise cash for the Barnard Castle Christmas Lights committee and the Teenage Cancer Trust.
Organiser Jonathan Wallace said about £2,000 had been raised from the day.
“Hopefully it will become an annual event,” he said.
Mr Wallace joined the town lights committee two years ago. He said that like many charities, raising cash for the lights had proved difficult during the Covid-19 lockdowns.
“I think the lights are a fantastic thing for Barney. It’s all done voluntarily and given the difficulties of the last year we need as much as we can.”
He also said the car show was a good chance to “lift our spirits” .
Mr Wallace is also the former chairman of the North East fundraising board of the Teenage Cancer Trust, a charity be became closely involved with after a member of his family was affected by the disease.
He thanked Barnard Castle School for providing the venue for the show, during which a number of the cars took part in a ride-out.
