THE 143rd annual Eggleston Agricultural Show proved to be a great success at its new venue at Hayberries Farm, near Mickleton.
The move was particularly successful for Hayberries Farm owner Peter Addison whose Zwartble sheep performed well earning him not only the champion of the breed, but also supreme champion of all sheep breeds.
In the cattle section Joanne Souter and her children Ethan and Megan had an excellent day winning a number of beef shorthorn titles before bagging the supreme cattle champion title with their cow and calf.
In the horses section Lily Gaulton of Tebay was delighted to have won Dales champion with Morlandsdale Rose before taking the overall horse champion award.
Show president Geoffrey Wilson was thrilled the move to Hayberries Farm had gone well and noted the good support by exhibitors and trade stands.
He said: “I am over the moon. The animals are very high quality. The standard of the stock is a credit to the exhibitors. The trade stand support is very good this year – because farming is up and down it is wonderful to have such loyal support.”
Highland cattle judge Matthew Auld, from Kilmarnock, was impressed with how the breed is doing in Teesdale.
He said: “The standard is very good, it is comparable to what we have at home. What impressed me is the number of young people showing – they are very knowledgeable.”
Crossbred native sheep judge David Wilson, from Harrogate, was also impressed with what he saw at the show, especially considering the difficult weather conditions farmers had to deal with during lambing season.
