A MURDER mystery developed during lockdown will be played out in the open-air next month when everyone is invited to put their detective skills to the test to crack the case.
Sweet Murder written by Sara West from Tall Tale Mysteries, based in Gainford, is a fun interactive murder mystery event set to be played out on Sunday, July 9.
It is the second time Gainford Drama Club have teamed up with Tall Tale Mysteries to raise funds.
This year the story revolves around Walter Worth, the founder of a sweet company.
The suspects, which will be played by members of the drama club, are all members of his family and hold clues to solving the mystery.
Ms West said: “The action starts at the Academy Theatre at 2pm and it then heads outside where the suspects will be in different locations arounds the village – in gardens and on the green. Guests will set off with a notebook and pose questions to the different suspects to try and work out who the killer is.
“Each of the suspects have a clue with them which they will give out when they are asked the right question. The idea is that people will pop back and forward between suspects as they build up a picture of who dunnit.
“It is absolutely amazing outdoors and we’ve done it before. It’s suitable for children even though there’s murder involved. We found that the children get so engrossed with the story bouncing back and forward asking questions. They love being little detectives. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us.”
The event concludes back at the Academy Theatre at the end of the afternoon when the killer will be revealed.
She added: “Anyone who thinks they’ve cracked it before, then can hand in their notebook and they will get a QR code that links to the website and will allow them to watch the killer’s confession.”
Ms West originally wrote Sweet Murder during lockdown as part of an online murder mystery weekend.
She said: “We have not done this once since we did it in lockdown online so it’s nice for it to come out.
