BARNARD Castle’s Community Orchestra is turning up the heat this month when it returns to The Witham on Saturday, June 24, for its second Summer Sizzler Concert.
Last year the 50-strong orchestra, which meets and rehearses at St Mary’s Parish Church in Barnard Castle, performed to a sell-out audience for their concert that also featured Green Lane Primary School’s choir and “one or two surprises” .
Annette Butters, director of music at St Mary’s Parish Church, said: “We had a full house last time and it was great.”
She added: “We are working on the programme and are more or less there. There will be a nice variety of music – we have some slower stuff but a lot of it will be quite lively. It is a very family friendly concert so any age can enjoy it.”
“We like to think we are a bit unique, but everyone thinks that about their group.
“The orchestra likes to think we are a bit different because we do some wacky stuff at times.
“We do some light orchestral stuff, but we do pop, music from shows and usually something unique as well. We are featuring hose pipe playing, but we also do sacred, standards and novelty numbers.”
Tickets for the Summer Sizzler Concert II cost £5 for under 16s and £8 for adults and are available from the
witham.org.
