FUNDRAISERS have planned a fun evening, described as “one for the grown ups” , to pull in cash to support a town primary school.
The Friends of Green Lane School (FOGLS) is a group of parents and teachers who meet once a month to plan and hold fundraising events to support the school.
The Covid-19 pandemic meant they were unable to do any fundraising activities but have kept in touch through a WhatsApp group.
Laura Aspey, a member of FOGLS, said: “We had a really difficult year last year with fundraising as we couldn’t meet or organise any activities. So, we have no money left in the bank.”
Fellow mum Debra Baker said: “We often do fundraising events for the kids like discos but we thought it would be nice to do something for the grown-ups.”
So four weeks ago the determined mums set about organising a special fundraising event, which they hope will bring in more than £1,000 to provide cash to enable the purchase of equipment and school trips.
“One for the Grown Ups” event at CroBar in Barnard Castle is to take place on Sunday, October 17, starting at 3pm.
Tickets cost £15 and include a welcome drink, entry to a quiz and a bite to eat, with food being provided by Memories of The Black Forest food van.
The group have also organised a grand raffle where for just a pound people could be in with a chance of winning the top prize – a weekend break for two in Northumberland worth £290.
“We’ve been blown away by the support of the businesses in town,” added Mrs Baker. “Given the tough year they have all had we are overwhelmed by the support they’ve shown us with all the prizes.”
