RESIDENTS in Ingleton have launched a fundraising campaign to help replace aging play equipment at the village playground.
The wooden adventure climbing trail was installed about 20 years ago, and although it has been well-maintained, an inspection report has shown it is “coming to the end of its life” .
Parish councillor Judith Pressley said: “We had a report to say it will need replacing. It’s still safe to use and we have made sure it’s well-maintained and painted each year, but it’s wood and there is only so long it will last and it is past its best.
“During the first lockdown the play area was shut, but it is very well used now.”
The community is rasing money buy new equipment and residents of all ages are involved in the effort.
Melanie Ingleson, from the pavilion working group, said: “The community association and the church have said they would donate money and we have also set up a Just Giving page.
“We have been promised £4,000 from the community association and we hope to be able to get match funding from Barclays as well.”
Children from the primary school are also helping.
Ms Ingleson added: “The children are taking part in an entrepreneurial scheme at school. They have been given £5 each to see how they can grow that amount. To replace the adventure trail is going to cost about £8,000 and we’re hoping to be able to raise the money to keep the play area going and give the children something fun to use.”
