CREEPY crawlies were the order of the day as children gathered for a fantastic Wild Wednesday at Bowlees Visitor Centre.
Following a theme of Weird and Wonderful, Mandy Oliver, of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Partnership (AONB), led the youngsters on a trail uncovering earthworms, slugs and other animals.
They learned a host of strange facts, including rabbits eat their own poo and earthworms can have up to five hearts.
Slugs, they learned, have thousands of teeth.
Along the route they picked up different letters which they unscrambled to spell out the word “weird” , before pausing among the pine trees to make their own creatures using natural items like leaves, twigs and moss that they collected along the way.
