OWNERS of greyhounds, lurchers and sighthounds are being invited to a charity fundraising walk at Hutton Magna on Sunday, September 24.
The Great Global Greyhound Walk aims to promote the breed as “greyt” pets, but will also be raising cash for the Stray Aid charity and Spanish rescue centre 112 Carlota Galgos.
Last year’s event, which attracted 14 of the unique breeds as well as their companion dogs, raised £210.
This year’s event will the eighth to be held in the village.
Organiser Carroll Trevor said: “This will be one of our better years and we will have a tombola and a cake stand, and people can have a slice of cake for tuppence or 20 pence.”
She is also hoping for good weather for the walk because of the nature of greyhounds.
Ms Carroll said: “They don’t do hot, they don’t do cold, they don’t do rain, they don’t do wind, so you need a slightly cloudy, still day. One thing they do not do is wet, greyhounds do not do wet.”
Fellow organiser Glynis Laidler, who will be walking with Bess said: “We did one where we reached the top of the drive and came home again because it was that wet.”
Ms Trevor added: “That was the one during Covid which we did in November, and that was so cold and wet and windy. Pretty much every dog put its brakes on and wasn’t going anywhere.
“So we came back to the hall and had tea.”
Greyhound walkers are invited to bring their children or family members, as well as accompanying dogs, for the day out.
Ms Trevor said: “If people bring their picnic, we will provide tea, coffee and juice.”
Fellow organiser Sheila Wylie will be joining the walk with her dog May, who was adopted from the Greyhound Rescue Centre, at High Coniscliffe.
The day starts at 10am and the walk gets underway at 10.30am and lasts about an hour over roads, footpaths and field paths.
