A JUBILEE event organised by a band of mums has raised almost £1,200 for four community groups in Butterknowle.
The afternoon tea party at Butterknowle Village Hall was organised by mums who attend a weekly toddler session after they realised nothing else was being organised to mark the Queen’s 70 years on the throne. Along with the tea, people enjoyed traditional games and a performance by celebrity magician Danny Hunt.
More than 300 people attended. Mum Kimberley Batey said: “The hall was absolutely chocka and there were still people playing outside with the toys.”
Fellow organiser Carolyn Matthews paid tribute to people of the village for their support. She added: “We did really well. People were helping out and we’ve had loads of comments about how nice it is to bring the community together again.”
The group received cash from the village hall, parish council, county councillor James Cosslett and Teesdale Action Partnership to host the party.
The also received support from local businesses which offered prizes for a raffle. Some £1,048.80 was raised which was shared equally between the toddler playgroup, village hall, Butterknowle Sea Scouts and Friends of Butterknowle School.
The mums are now planning for a family fun night and are also considering hosting an event for Halloween.
