A MONTHLY community cafe is not only raising the spirits of residents in Eggleston, it is helping raise cash for various charities.
Held at the village hall on the first Monday of each month, which coincides with one of the twice weekly visits of the mobile post office, the community cafe is gaining momentum with more and more residents popping in for a coffee and cake in return for a donation.
Retired vicar Ruth Stables said: “We regularly get 26 or so people popping in. Every month we chose a charity and we have given money to the Prince’s Trust and the TCR Hub. This month we decided as it was Macmillan month, to support them.
“We usually get about £60 or £70 a month. We do have a lot of older residents in the village and quite a lot of new people moving in, but we do have a good mix of age groups coming and getting to know one another.”
Eggleston community cafe takes place between 10am and noon on the first Monday of each month.
