A FORMER Teesdale School student has been promoted to Lieutenant Commander on Royal Navy’s Fleet Flagship, HMS Queen Elizabeth.
Robert Coatsworth, originally from Mickleton, was promoted from principal warfare officer to lieutenant commander, serving on the HMS Queen Elizabeth, last week.
Mr Coatsworth, 38, attended Teesdale School before going to Aberdeen University and then Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth.
His proud parents, Janet and Trevor Coatsworth, still live in Mickleton and said they were “really chuffed” at his recent promotion.
Dad Trevor added: “He got the news last week and although it could take him a few years to get to commander it is the career path he wants. We’re really chuffed at his promotion news. He has wanted to be in the Royal Navy since he was a little boy and we went on ferries on holiday.”
Mr Coatsworth and his wife, also attended the Queen’s jubilee service at St Paul’s Cathedral in London.
