IDENTIFYING “trees in disguise” while blindfolded was just one of the challenges children faced when they took part in a Wild Wednesday event at Bowlees Visitor Centre during the half-term.
Wild Wednesday is hosted by the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Partnership with the aim of getting children to know more about the flora, fauna and geology of upper Teesdale.
The theme of the half-term event saw the AONB’s geology project officer Naomi Foster leading the children on a winter woodland tour.
She said: “We are identifying trees, which are in disguise in the winter because they have shed their leaves.
“We are also doing some tree planting and craft activities with items we collect outside.”
The children were taught to identify trees by the colour and texture of their bark as well as the nuts they drop.
