A SONGWRITING workshop for over-50s followed by a concert is being held at Mickleton Village Hall this week.
The event, called Talent is Timeless, has been arranged by local composer Nigel Fletcher with folk singer Saskia Griffiths-Moore leading the workshop and performing at the concert. The singer will also release her new album, Where Are We Heading, at the event, which takes place on Sunday, October 10, from 2pm to 4pm.
The 28-year-old singer-songwriter founded Talent Is Timeless, which is described as an “age-positive online songwriting competition with a twist” – because every entrant had to be 50 or over.
It was formed during the second lockdown last November. Mr Fletcher said: “The intention was to prove that ageism should be irrelevant in the music industry as well as to connect and inspire people across the country. It went viral online and attracted backing from the likes of Kasabian’s Ian Matthews, and businesses like Caffe Nero. The prize was a record deal and recording the winning song at Abbey Road Studios as well as musical equipment, industry mentoring and performance opportunities.”
Talent is Timeless is now a free community of songwriters over 50 that anyone can join online. It includes masterclasses, live interviews with industry figures, and songwriting workshops online and in person.
Mr Fletcher added: “Saskia has decided to offer the opening slot on each concert night to members of the Talent Is Timeless community who come to the workshops to give the community opportunities to play to new and larger audiences.”
