Grand support for community venue

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES: Community groups will again be able to use Butterknowle Village Hall such as the martial arts group

A VILLAGE hall at the heart of life in a rural village has been gifted £1,000 as it looks to re-open its social diary for over 50s.
Persimmon Homes Durham has chosen Butterknowle Village Hall to receive the funds through its Community Champions initiative, which supports groups and
charities
Organisers at the village hall say the funds will be targeted towards three specific groups.
Klara Whiley, who made the successful funding bid, said: “The pandemic has impacted the hall and we are just now planning and looking forward to reopen our hall and being able to recommence our activities.
“This generous donation will assist the return of three groups for the over 50s who use the hall each week.
“They are our sequence dance group who will be able to update their music choices, and the 50-plus group who will fund guest speakers and support for the gentle martial arts group.
“We have a strong community and we are delighted to have been chosen by the team.”
Christine Cooper, sales director for Persimmon Homes Durham, said: “We strongly believe in supporting the communities where we build and are delighted to be able to support the clubs at Butterknowle Village Hall as people’s lives begin to broaden out again and we can enjoy more social activities.”
The Persimmon Homes Community Champions initiative invites groups and charities who have already worked hard to raise money themselves to apply for match-funding of up to £1,000.
Ms Cooper added: “We’re urging good causes and charities to apply for donations by completing an online form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity” .
