Champion heifer at Middleton mart sells for £1,750

GOOD SHOW: Helen Chappell

AT Middleton-in-Teesdale Mart’s May show and sale of store cattle, a welcome buzz was present within the market as the pre-sale show took place.
The show was kindly sponsored by Karen Scott Farmhouse Kitchen, G Shepherd Animal Health, WE Jameson & Son Ltd, Alston Road Garage, and Copley Coal Co.
The job of judging fell in the capable hands of Matthew Brown, who did a good job of placing a quality show of cattle, with a huge credit going to all vendors.
The championship rosette along with the Steyr Cup was awarded to JW & EA Watson, Palletstone Farm, with a black stylish heifer later selling to £1,750, topping the heifer section on the day.
JC & J White, Rigg Farm received the reserve championship along with the Copley Coal Trophy for his first prize Limousin cross bullock, which sold to £1,130 and was purchased by the Judge.
Outwith the show, eight and nine-month-old cattle regularly sold in excess of £1,000, and topped at £1,325 for his Limousin bullock.
A strong ringside of buyers ensured the heifers were a delight to sell, with Tom and Kay Hutchinson selling a pure Limousin heifer sired by Wilodge Inchyinch for £1,200.
