A 12-YEAR-OLD girl from Barnard Castle has carried out a door-to-door collection to make Christmas for less fortunate people a little brighter.
Teesdale School pupil Kailey Shann was inspired by a halloween tradition for her drive to collect non-perishable food and goodies ahead of Christmas.
She said: “I thought instead of getting sweets I would ask for food for the foodbank.”
She had planned to complete the door-to-door collection during halloween with her mum but they coudn’t because they did not have a trolley.
However, a Facebook appeal saw Penny’s Tea
Room and resident Judith Rodwell offer the use of their trollies.
The youngster undertook the collection last Wednesday, starting near her home in Montalbo Road, before moving along Woodside.
Friends also asked her to collect in Zetland Road.
Kailey asked that along with tinned goods and non-perishable foods like dried pasta, people also gave treats such as mince pies, chocolates and biscuits so that impoverished people can also enjoy a few “luxuries” over the festive season.
Everything collected will be delivered to the Influence Church’s foodbank, in the town.
