Dale newsletter helps keep older folk in touch

DOING THE ROUNDS: Gordon Thomson and his son

OLDER people who have missed out on their regular lunch club get togethers

are still being kept up to

date through a monthly newsletter.

Teesdale Day Clubs, which operates regular lunch meetings at ten venues across the dale to help alleviate social isolation, has had to halt operations since March because of coronavirus.

But it has still managed to keep contact with its 275 members, including through a monthly newsletter.

Michael Carr, who compiles the newsletter, said: “It is a great way of keeping in touch with our members and complements the regular phone calls we make to them.

“We have been able to do this thanks to much appreciated financial support from The National Lottery Covid Emergency Fund, along with help from Teesdale Action Partnership and our wonderful printers at Richmond Print.

“Getting the newsletter out to our members has been a job that has been handled brilliantly by some of our trustees, Hazel Rayner in particular.

“This month the task was undertaken by Gordon Thomson, ably assisted by his son Adam.

“I am so pleased that our members enjoy receiving this.

“We are all hoping that we can get back to our lunch clubs in the not too distant future to enjoy each other’s company and the wonderful food our chefs serve up, but in the meantime we will continue to keep in touch with future newsletters as long as we can.”

He appealed for businesses, individuals or organisations who want to help sponsor

future editions to get in

touch.

Mr Carr can be contacted on 07818 040066, 01833 640486 or by email at

[email protected] or [email protected].
