IT was lighting up time in Staindrop last week as volunteers put the finishing touches to the village’s festive illuminations.
Despite the Covid-19 alert, the group had managed to introduce some new displays to augment the usual stunning display.
As usual, there are Christmas trees at both ends of Staindrop – in the ground’s of St Mary’s Church and in the triangle at the junction with the Moor Lane, courtesy of Lord Barnard and Raby Estates.
While the monthly domino drives have been cancelled due to the pandemic restrictions, fundraising for the lights has continued with a monthly lottery draw and donation from the parish council.
Funds received an extra boost from the sale of Christmas characters painted onto log ends, which proved extremely popular with residents. The village does not have an official switch-on event and the illuminations are now shining brightly each evening.
