U15s tested to limit but take 1-0 victory
Barnard Castle under 15s v Greatham.
FOR the first home league match in almost four months the whole squad were tested to the limit against an improving Greatham.
The first half was even with both teams having periods of ascendency and opportunities but Barney got the only goal. It came early on when Billy Cassidy met a clearance with an excellent, powerful header and Niall, seeing the possibilities quickly, headed the ball on instantly and accurately into the path of Adam Lee-Shield who ran on goal from 35 yards out.
The visitors were the better team for the last 15 minutes of the half but Jamie McDougal made two good saves and the defenders some last ditch tackles as we took a slender advantage in to the interval. Half-Time 1-0.
The second half was also even but with fewer chances generated. Adam went close twice and Jamie made a further good save at the near post early on but he produced his best as the tension mounted in added time. Greatham sent a long free-kick in to the penalty area and a goal mouth scramble ensued with Jamie making a triple save.
Jamie and the defence where immense with Matty superb alongside Sam Griffin and Liam Foster who both put in fantastic displays; whilst Adam worked tirelessly and anticipated Niall’s vision for the only goal of the game.
Man of match Jack Walker, given the task of tracking the visitors’ strong left-sided attacker, did not give an inch all game.
Team: McDougal, Foster, Wheeler, Griffin, Walker, Haston, Cassidy, Lambert, Holloway, Garner (Tallentire 79), Lee-Shield. MoM – Jack Walker: Full Time 1-0.
