Sponsored walk for cancer charity inspired by friend
A GROUP of people inspired by a friend who has thyroid cancer are organising a sponsored walk in Teesdale.
As well as the walk on Saturday, April 13, there will also be a disco and charity auction to raise funds for the Macmillan Cancer Support charity.
The fundraising day is being organised by Neil Stokell of Shirl’s Shakes, Barnard Castle, Karen Barleycorn and Marie Heightley.
Mr Stokell said the group were inspired by close friend Joe Brown whose mum Sue Glendenning is battling cancer.
Walkers will meet at The Hub at 8.30am and set off at 9.30am on a route which will take them through Lartington, Cotherstone and back via the River Tees, returning to The Hub where the charity raffle will be drawn. A shorter route is also available.
The evening disco and charity auction will be held at the Jersey Farm Hotel from 7pm.
Sponsorship forms and evening tickets are available from Shirl’s Shakes, The Hub, or any of the event organisers.
