Rycroft graces the scoresheet in style
Houghton-Le-Spring 2nds 39 Barnard Castle 10
BARNARD Castle were on the road again this Saturday. After a narrow loss the week before to Wensleydale when they went down 21-7 – Lee Ainsley and Scott Richardson scoring a try and conversion respectively – it was the turn of rumbustious back row player Karl Rycroft to be in the points.
He drove over from a lineout close to the Houghton try line in the first half to close the score at the break to 17-5.
The home side drew away after some team changes with three quick scores. Rycroft then graced the scoresheet again when he picked up from the base of a scrum to crash through in the corner.
It was good to see more new faces in the side. In particular Mick Martin, who although out of the game for a year or two, was still able to show he has plenty of pace and tackling ability to bring to the side’s future fixtures.
Evergreen team manager Stuey Patterson added yet another position to his catalogue as he held up one corner of the scrum at prop, while whippet Welsby was relegated to back row duties. This week sees the seconds at home to Darlington.
