‘Rural Oscar’ for Organic shop
A FARM shop near Barnard Castle has won a major award.
Cross Lanes Organic Farm has claimed the 2012 Countryside Alliance Start-up Award in the North East – the awards are dubbed the “Rural Oscars”.
As a regional champion, the business will go forward to the national finals and the owners, Peter and Sue Coverdale, have been invited to the House of Lords in London on March 13 when they will hear if they have been named overall winner. MP Helen Goodman put Cross Lanes forward for the award. She said: “I nominated Cross Lanes Organic Farm which has quickly established itself as one of the country’s best organic farm shops, run and built entirely on eco-principles.” The prize is one of many won by the business since it opened off the A66 in 2010.
